Spring Allergies You Should Be Aware of and How to Combat Them

If you have a sensitive nose, then things will probably be very uncomfortable for in spring. In this season, the flowers, plants, and grass would bloom, and insects would be assisting in the reproduction of plants through pollination. Unfortunately, this also means that people with allergies will experience a lot of sniffles. If you happen to have seasonal allergies, here are a few allergies to look out for and how to combat them.

The most common seasonal allergy is the pollen allergy which is obviously caused by pollen. During springtime, plants start to bloom, and then pollination occurs. Pollen, from one plant, transfer from another through the strong winds during the spring season. Sometimes, the pollen would be inhaled by people, and then cause pollen allergies. Typical symptoms would be a runny nose, itchy and watery eyes, as well as sneezing.

Mold Allergy

Another allergy that is triggered in spring is mold allergy. During the spring season, molds or mildew form spores that would also go into the air. Once these spores are out in the open and inhaled by people, they will cause allergic reactions. Just like the symptoms of pollen allergy, you will also suffer from a lot of sneezing, itchy nose, mucus build up, and watery eyes.

Dust Allergy

Dust build up at home is definitely worse during the spring and the summertime when the weather is hot. If you are allergic to dust, then your nose will definitely become more sensitive even when you are at home. Even though dust allergies aren’t as severe as mold or pollen allergies, they still are quite uncomfortable.

Tips on how to Combat Them

As they always say, prevention is better than cure, and the same goes for when treating allergies. We can’t control pollen, dust, or molds, but we can control how much we are exposed to. Whenever its springtime, and you feel like going out, always wear a mask. This is to prevent the pollen and the spores from being inhaled. Also, make sure that you wash your clothes and take a hot shower when you get home so that the pollen and spores don’t stick on your body or clothes. As for dust, it would be good to clean your house regularly. It’s also wise to be aware of dust mites as they usually thrive in humid weather.

Lastly, if you happen to be having an allergy attack like a fit of sneezing, extremely watery eyes, very runny nose, etc., then have some hot drinks instead of cold refreshments. Hot water, tea, or hot honey with lemon work wonders for treating allergic reactions. Also, don’t forget to drink more than 8 cups of water a day as this keeps you hydrated. Since allergies are a reaction that would occur when your immune system is low, another thing you can do is simply boost your immune system. Take your daily doses of vitamins and minerals to keep your body strong so that you won’t have to suffer badly from seasonal allergies.
