News From China: Punishment By Death To Those Who Are Found Guilty Of Food Safety Violations
I just received an article released by World Health News that made me say “wow”. Chinese authorities indicated they were imposing the death penalty as part of China’s ongoing battle to tackle food safety breaches.

We may remember when a few years ago, it was in the news about the adulteration of milk powder with melamine that killed six people and sickened at least 300,000. I was in the country Panama a few years ago when there were nine people who died from a food supplement that came from China. Well, it looks like China is trying to clean up their process.

“Those deserving death penalties should be resolutely sentenced to death, said Xinhua quoting from the official notice, which was jointly issued with The Supreme Court, the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate.”

The release also stated they were introducing harsher punishments for the government officials who ignore the food safety offenses, protect offenders or take bribes.

I know it sounds harsh but when lives are at stake concerning food, it should be harsh. I am not sure what is happening to our food supply here in the United States. Almost monthly now you hear on the news about a food recall. The recalls have included foods such as lettuce, onions, peanut butter, baby formula, and many more items. The latest one I heard about was just two days ago which was sushi. Lets hope we get this under control.
