For years the media has reported that drinking coffee is bad for one’s health. I have always disagreed with that to a point. I always felt that coffee is an herb, yes a stimulant and the herbalist call it a nervine, but it possibly wasn’t as bad as we were told. Anything, if used too much can be detrimental to our health, even exercise. I always felt in my heart that a black cup of coffee can be good for you to help start your day. Think about it, usually what is the first thing a cup of coffee does for you? It makes you have to go poop. Pooping, (deification) is good for us. It gets all the toxic waste out of our body. Forget all the cream and sugar and other things that are being put in the coffee. That can be a problem.Dr. Henry Black is a Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine. He is a member of the Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease, and former president of the American Society of Hypertension. Recently Dr. Black explained to Medscape the findings of a new study that was released by NIH/ AARP (National Institute of Health/American Association of Retired Persons).
The study had more than 400,000 participants. That’s a lot of people. The participants were from age fifty one to over seventy years old. The study also went back and got information from more than 52,000 deaths from the National Death Index. It included participants from six states. The study investigators observed people who drank no coffee, people who drank less than one cup a day, two to three cups a day, four to five cups a day, or more than six cups a day. They then tallied up the rates of all the reasons for deaths in people with heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, respiratory disease, and other causes of death. Once they arrived at those figures, they then adjusted them for other factors, such as those who ate red meat, white meat, total calories, who smoked, and the kind of coffee that they consumed. After gathering all that information, they were a little surprised at what they found and had to adjust their data. The investigators clearly saw that cigarette smoking was a big offender. They found that coffee did lower the risk for all conditions but only if you are a nonsmoker. Now, I must add that I believe you still need to limit the amount of coffee you drink in a day. A good night sleep is much more important to your health than a good cup of coffee.
