Somehow I don’t quite think of sitting in a cold tank as being comfortable and certainly seems an odd path to health. However, this trend called cryotherapy is becoming very popular as Zawn Villin…

A new find in terms of developing viruses may prove to be beneficial in terms of fighting deadly viral illnesses, researchers say. A distinct corona virus was recognized as the reason for harsh respiratory diseases among 14 individuals in places ranging from Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Jordan and Qatar between the dates April 2012 and February 2013. This was reported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and according to the report, 8 people have died after being affected by the deadly virus.
Corona viruses are also the most prominent causes of the common cold but it gained infamy throughout the world due to the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak in the year 2003. Corona viruses were connected to SARS and were responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people.
There were no deaths reported in the U.S. as of late but the certainty that there were groups of individuals affected with the disease in the United Kingdom demonstrates that the new virus can be spread from person to person, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Because of this discovery, potential evidences on stopping this deadly virus are now looming on the horizon. Dutch researchers have uncovered the receptor that was utilized by the corona virus to take over healthy cells.
Bart Haagmans, a Rotterdam virologist from Erasmus Medical Center reports that stopping the virus from clinging to the receptor and entering the cells can help fight the illness. The results “provide further insight into how the virus causes severe pneumonia, as the receptor is present in the lower respiratory tract [trachea, airways or lungs],” he clarified.
However, the virus does not seem to be as transmittable as periodic flu. Haagmans explained that it might be due to the fact that the “receptor is minimally expressed in cells of the upper respiratory tract.” He added, “it is also unlikely that the virus can become much more capable of spreading more universally.”
A good measure to combat this deadly virus is to create a vaccine that will firmly guard the cells to the receptor of the corona virus. This approach will impede the virus from breaking into the cell and taking over.
Dr. Susan Gerber, medical epidemiologist with the division of viral diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has mentioned the merits of Haagmans’ research because it will prove beneficial to scientists in creating a cure. There is still plenty to learn about the virus though, but the discovery was an achievement, a big step in realizing a treatment for stopping corona viruses.
At the moment the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have advised travelers who caught severe acute lower respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia coming from the Arabian Peninsula or adjoining areas to see a doctor and undergo a checkup.
