CDC Study Shows 1 In 25 Teens Take Antidepressants

A study just released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is said to be the first to offer statistics on how many teens between the ages of 12 and 17 are on antidepressants. The study revealed that 1 in 25 adolescents are on antidepressant drugs such as Prozac and others. They based the study on surveys and screening for depression of about 12,000 United States adolescents and adults between the years 2005 through 2008.Wow that study was completed in 2008 and it is the end of 2011, three years later. I wonder what the true numbers are now? Adolescent problems are constantly in the news daily about suicides and problems from school bulling, family problems and other issues. If you remember, it was hard being a teenager but it certainly seems there is more problems in today’s world than we had.So many parents are struggling to work to make ends meet. There is an old saying, “it takes a village to raise a child.” I’m not sure if thats true or not, but maybe if we all could remember to take a little interest in at least one teenager who appears to be struggling, we could make a difference in that precious life. Remember, our youth is our United States future. Everyone needs to feel they are worthy of something and needs to feel needed.
