5 Ways to Prevent Onset of Arthritis

Why see yourself living with arthritis when you get old when you can prevent its coming? Why live with pain and ruin your quality of life when you can find ways to still take part in your future children’s and grandchildren’s activities in school? Really, do not look forward to having arthritis. Instead, think about enjoying your senior life to the fullest. Here are ways how:

1. Avoid straining your muscles and joints.

While you are still young, take notice of the repeated strains and aches that you feel in your muscles and joints. Know what is causing them. Is it your work? Is it your hobby or lifestyle? Never ignore them. Instead, find a solution. If it is your job that causes you to feel severe backache, try to work it out. You may need to change your office chair or you may have to stand up from time to time to get the pressure off your back. Know the helpful options available. More important, you have to visit a healthcare professional.

2. Increase your intake of calcium and vitamins.

See to it that you follow a healthy diet. More important, include dairy products, such as yogurt, milk and cheese, in your diet. In case you are one of those who are lactose intolerant, go for foods that are loaded with calcium: salmon, almonds, sesame seeds, broccoli, and others. Vitamins C and D, on the other hand, are known to make your joints healthy. Foods rich in vitamin D include fish, cod liver oil, fortified soy products, eggs, and mushrooms. Those that are loaded with vitamin C are guavas, fresh herbs, dark leafy vegetables, kiwi fruits, oranges, and others.

3. Maintain the weight of your body.

Your knees should be able to carry your entire weight. If you become overweight, you will be placing too much pressure on your knees that will then result to inflammation in the joints. To control your weight, you will need to exercise regularly. It makes the muscles around joints stronger thereby protecting them from deterioration. You will also have to strictly follow a healthy diet. Specifically, avoid drinking soft drinks as these let you gain weight.

4. Drink lots of water.

It is important that you are well-hydrated. Water constitutes 70 percent of the cartilage in joints. It lubricates them to avoid the joints from rubbing up against each other. Eight glasses of water a day is the recommended daily allowance.

5. Obtain early diagnosis and treatment.

If arthritis runs in the family, it is always best to seek early diagnosis so you can get immediate treatment. This way, you are either delaying or preventing injury to your joints.

Arthritis is an illness that involves the joints and develops from swelling. It occurs when two joints are rubbed against each other after the protective cartilage has been worn out. Okay, it is not always that you can prevent arthritis. Its causes may well be out of your control: gender, family history, and others. However, the tips above can help you delay or cut your risk of developing painful joints.
