Whoops! Study Accidentally Finds Chemotherapy Makes Cancer Far Worse

A wonderful friend of mine sent me an article labeled, Whoops! Study Accidentally Finds Chemotherapy Makes Cancer Far Worse. I was intrigued to learn more and try to find the study itself. Sometimes studies like this one are very hard to find unless you are one of the researchers who helped with the project. Sometimes, even though the study was actually published in a medical journal, you can’t get to it without paying the company a hefty fee.

It was reported in the journal, Nature Medicine, that the studies’ findings were ‘completely unexpected.’ They found evidences of significant DNA damage when examining the outcome of chemotherapy on tissue derived from men with prostate cancer.

It was found that a protein known as WNT16B was created from chemotherapy treatments. Researchers felt that this protein that was created by chemo treatments, increases the cancer cell survival and is the reason that chemotherapy will actually end the patient’s life at an earlier time.

Peter Nelson of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center stated, “WNT16B, when secreted, would interact with nearby tumor cells and cause them to grow, invade, and importantly, resist subsequent therapy.”

I have included a couple of links so that you may start your own research on this topic. As with everything, it is important to listen but go find out things your way so you can feel good about your findings.

I hope one day there will be a government announcement that chemotherapy is not the only way. There are many wonderful alternative/ complementary treatments also.

Happy researching!
