Ways to Prevent Back Pain at Work

With back pain as one of the typical reasons people miss their work you should take notice of this at the first sign. You should not wait for it to worsen. Address it immediately so you need not see a doctor (at least not yet). Here are ways to do so:

1. You may feel like you want to stay in bed but no, it is not the solution. The longer you become immobile, the frailer your back muscles will become. What you do is to improve your physical activities. At work, you are seated in your chair for eight hours or even longer. On your way home, you are also settled in the bus or driver’s chair. Soon as you get home, you unwind on your couch or right in your bed. You have to learn to break this monotony.

You can do simple exercises while in the office. You can try walking or climbing the stairs instead of taking the elevator. You can do simple stretching exercises that will address the pain in your back as well. You can try shoulder shrugs.

2. Sit correctly. Choose a straight-backed chair as it will allow you to sit up straight. If in case your chair in the office is giving you back pain, invest on your own or place a pillow on your back to provide low back support. Likewise, make sure that your feet are well rested on the floor.

3. Position your computer monitor in such a way that it is in the same level of your eyes so you do not have to lean forward or to move your neck up and down. If the table is too high for you to achieve this, adjust the chair instead. Keep your head up and move your mouse closer so you do not have to reach for it.

4. Buy a bed that is friendly on your back not because of its style, color or price. For one, choose the one that is firm enough to support your back. You should also learn to do the proper sleeping position. It is also important to stretch before you get up. In your sleep, your body moves your blood to other parts, such as stomach, kidney, and others. Soon as you wake up, your spine lacks movement and blood flow; hence, it is susceptible to sprains and strains. So the best way to address this is to stretch.

You love your job—no doubt about that. But it is giving you back pain. What should you do? Resign and find a new one? Of course not! Work on some things that will help you eliminate it. Do not wait for the time that you will have to see a doctor because it has gone to worse. Address it while you can. If you know you can’t do things on your own, then this is the time to pay him a visit.
