Some Sex Facts

The average American couple reports having sex 66 times a year, according to the National Opinion Research Center. They also say that married adults under age 30 admit to having sex an average of 109 times a year. That drops to 70 times per year for 40+ and 52 times for those in their 50’s. Geez!

Sexual inclinations for women are more complicated than men’s. Men are very specific about who they become aroused while women have less-directed sex drives that are more “fluid” and heavily influenced by social and cultural factors.

Believe it or not, the average erect penis length is between 5 and 6 inches, in spite of what some men boast of. That size changes to an average of around 3.5 inches when flaccid. Remember now, this is just facts, right? No judgment!

About 10% of men reported a preference for oral sex to reach orgasm while 18% of women reported the oral preference. Most men prefer vaginal intercourse, but women are more likely to reach orgasm when engaged in a variety of sex acts that include vaginal intercourse or oral sex.

It was found through a study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine that the average duration from the beginning of vaginal penetration until ejaculation was 5.4 minutes. That sure isn’t what we hear from those men out there, is it? Boy, those egos!

Now for the men out there, be sure to avoid stress as it can make “things” shrink. It might only be temporary but who wants that, right?

It’s hard to believe, but women over the age of 50 report being more likely to have an orgasm when a sexual event is with someone who is NOT a relationship partner. Many divorced or widowed women find the novelty of a new partner arousing. I didn’t say anything about the married women, did I?

If you enjoy masturbation, it is safe and healthy according to sex therapists. It can also improve your sexual function and relationships.

The majority of adult men under 60 think about sex at least once a day and only ¼ of women report this level of frequency. As we age, each fantasizes less but men still fantasize twice as often as the women.

Only about 29% of women that are part of a couple report they always have an orgasm. Men report that to be 75% for them.

Now whether the G-spot even exists is another matter up for debate. Some experts do note that there’s no unique anatomical structure where the G-spot is supposed to be located. If it does, it’s best described as an erogenous zone rather than a part of a woman’s anatomy. So all you men who think you’ve really found that spot, maybe you haven’t.

On a more positive note, for the most part sex is a healthy form of exercise for older people and having sex twice or more a week reduced the risk of fatal heart attack by half, compared to those who had sex less than once a month. Frequency of sex was not associated with stroke; however, people with a history of stroke or heart disease should consult with their doctors about their sexual activity.

So there you have it. Enjoy it as long as you can, right?
