There are more health hazards in your office than you think. When it comes to your health, sitting at your desk at the office can actually do more harm than good. Health hazards such as sleeping problems, eyestrain and back pain can result from an increasingly stressed yet sedentary environment at work. Here are a few health hazards you can go through in your office with or without knowing it.

Eyestrain
Vision can get blurry after staring for hours on end at the screen of your computer. Generally, eyes become sensitive after days staring at a screen. Generally, eyes become more sensitive and vision gets blurred. These are symptoms of eyestrain. Increase the size of your font to prevent computer eyestrain. Looking away from your computer screen to reduce monitor glare is another way you can prevent your eyes from getting strained.

Joint Problems
Joints can feel tight when you sit in one position too long since the human body is meant for movement. In particular, sitting at a desk can tighten and shorten the hip flexors, which are the muscles that attach your body to your legs. Walking around a bit and getting up from time to time from your desk can help keep your hips loose.

Low Back Pain
It can be devastating to your body when you have bad posture and sit down for hours on end. As a matter of fact, even when you don’t have bad posture, it can still be bad for your back if this goes on for hours on end. Actually, back pain is a primary reason that adults of all ages miss work, when you work at your desk; bad posture is more than just sitting down and slouching. When you curve your back too much and sit up straight, this can also be a cause of pain in the lower back. When you are going through lower back pain, it is a good idea to help relieve some of that pressure by doing strengthening activities for your abdominal region. It can also be a bad idea to have a fat wallet in your back pocket as you sit for hours as this can cause sciatic nerve pressure that can cause sharp pain in the back.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Repeated motions that you do again and again can cause pain or injury. Most folks are under the impression that carpal tunnel syndrome is just from typing. Actually it is not just pain that comes from typing but rather is a sharp pain, itching, numbness or tingling that is caused by nerves running through your forearms that swollen bones and ligaments in the wrist compress. If you are suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome and are thinking of surgery, drugs or acupuncture, try exercises and stretching that helps release wrist tension. Contrary to popular belief, your wrist does not need to rest on wrist cushions that are sold in stores. Rather, your hands need to be aligned with your wrist and only occasionally rest on the wrist pads after long bouts of typing.
