Researchers from the University College London conducted a study for eight years assessing 3,500 people around 64 years of age. It has been found that 20% of the participants were healthy agers, which meant those who did not have any clinical disease, free from physical disability, and has sharp brain function, as well as good social functioning.
From the study, those who were already active before and during the entirety of the study are 7x more likely to be part of those healthy agers, which make up 20 percent of the participants. On the other hand, individuals who only became active during the research period became 3x likely to become healthy agers when compared to those who remained physically inactive.
So what does this tell us, then? Quite simply, as long as you start getting physically active, regardless of when you decide to start, you will still feel changes in your body that would better contribute to a healthier aging process. Despite being genetically designed for physical activity, technological advancements have allowed people to become lax in engaging in exercise, not knowing that it can actually help prolong life.
