neem leaves

Neem used in Prostate Cancer Treatment

One of the most common cancers in men is prostate cancer.  The latest statistics report about 181,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year in the U.S.  There is, however, a survival rate of about 80%, and about 26,000 die each year from the disease.

All of the conventional diagnostics and treatment options leave much to be desired.  The PSA testing and biopsy are prone to false positives and carry risks of side effects.  Drugs, surgery and/or radiation as a typical treatment, are risky.  Peter Starr, an award-winning filmmaker and prostate cancer survivor has written a documentary “Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery, Drugs or Radiation.”  This might be a very informative document to read.

Some safe and all-natural strategies have been shown to be effective against prostate cancer, including nutritional ketosis, exercise and supplements.  A bioactive compound in the neem plant (Azadirachta indica) was recently found by researchers that appear to have potent abilities to quell prostate cancer.

Neem has a long history of medicinal use and has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years, and the ancient Vedas refer to it as a tree “capable of curing every illness.”  There are established benefits for your skin, and is also commonly used in personal care products.  Neem is used to erase gastrointestinal problems, strengthen immune functions, and as a spermicide and insect repellent.  This plant may also be a potent ally against prostate cancer.

A bioactive terpenoid compound has been found in neem through animal research.  This may shrink prostate tumors by as much as 70%, and suppress metastasis by about 50%, when taken orally for three months.  There were no noticeable side effects observed. Nimbolide has not yet been tested in humans, but research has supported neem as an anti-cancer aid.  Further research is required.

It requires more than taking a supplement to treat and prevent prostate cancer.  Diet is a vital part of the healing and exercise is another important metabolic optimizer.  A cohort study published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Presentation found in 2013 that men who were overweight or obese increased their risk of prostate cancer by 57%.  Another key for cancer prevention is optimizing your vitamin D level.  This deficiency has been linked to several common cancers, including cancers of the breast, colon and prostate.

Vitamin K2 appears to also be a noteworthy player in prostate cancer.  Some other supplements that support prostate health besides neem extract are saw palmetto, astaxanthin in combination with saw palmetto and ashwagandha.

Toxin may increase your prostate cancer risk.  Some of the most ubiquitous endocrine disrupters to watch out for includes atrazine, phthalates, and bisphenol-A and bisphenol-S.

A report by the Institute of Medicine, about 30% of all medical procedures, tests and medications may be unnecessary.  The PSA test tends to result in over-diagnosis of prostate tumors.  About 30% to 40% of men treated for prostate cancer actually have harmless tumors that would never have caused a problem.  Remember the basics to prevent cancer.  Your lifestyle can be more or less predictive of your cancer risk.  Eat a nutrient-dense, non-toxic diet by ditching processed foods and focus your diet on whole, fresh foods.  Choose organically grown foods to avoid toxic pesticides that can increase your cancer risk.  Prostate cancer can be prevented and beaten!

Clean up your diet and add certain herbal supplements such as saw palmetto and ashwagandha to support your prostate health.  Increasing selenium and magnesium while decreasing calcium may reduce your cancer risk, and simple strategies such as prostate massage can be a helpful adjunct to prostate cancer treatment.  You have options when it comes to prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Alternative routes of treatment are available and you will usually have time to pursue these other alternatives.

Benefits-of-hibiscus-tea

Benefits of Hibiscus Tea

The most dramatic change in improving your health is very simple and free.  Put a halt to all sodas, because they are loaded with a toxic amount of sugar or artificial sweeteners.  This is more toxic to your health than you could ever imagine.  Some people are reluctant to give up soda because they just have to have that flavor, and drinking water is just plain boring.  Water is still the healthiest beverage you can consume.

Water is still the healthiest beverage you can consume.

There is light at the end of the tunnel!  The absolute perfect alternative to water resistance is drinking hibiscus tea.  This tea is grown in warmer climates as the Southeastern U.S. and is derived from the Malvaceae botanical family, also known as Roselle.  The large exotic flowers are vibrant red with a tinge of pink.  A part of the flower is the calyx, which is dried to make a ruby-colored tea with more than 200 varieties.  The tea is desirable for its cooling, soothing quality and is also known as “sour tea”.  It has a pleasingly sharp flavor that is similar to the tartness of cranberry.

Grocery stores don’t typically shelve hibiscus tea and it’s sometimes even hard to find in alternative health food stores.  By going online you can purchase 100% certified USDA organic hibiscus tea, both for iced or hot tea.  You can also purchase hibiscus extract that you can just “pump” in your glass with water for a refreshing substitute.

Hibiscus tea is high in vitamin C, minerals and antioxidants and has been recognized in early tradition and modern science as a remedy to calm nervous disorders, treat insomnia, moderate heart problems, decrease inflammation and to speed up your metabolism.  They use the pulp from the leaves to make poultices for wounds.

When used in some commercial tea blends, hibiscus can lower blood pressure without side effects and have residual benefits.  If maintained over time, it will even reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack.  There is one study that links hibiscus extracts with protecting the liver and preventing obesity and fatty liver disease.

Health problems that can be caused by soda consumption are: contributes zero nutrition, turns sugar to fat in the liver, causes insulin resistance, raises heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes risk, drastically increases belly fat and is linked to an increased risk of dementia.  Even the diet soda has been linked to weight gain.  About 50% of regular sugar is fructose, which is one of the most insidious, health-destructive substances you can consume.  In fact, fructose is a major contributor to disease including diabetes, heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

Hibiscus tea is a natural healer with these five benefits; potential anti-cancer effects, antioxidant benefits, kidney stones and liver protection, diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

When protecting those you love, encourage them to drink pure water and give up soda and juice.  Whole fruit can be healthy for you, but juice should be avoided as it contains a very high concentration of fructose.  The juice you pick up at the market may not even contain 100% fruit.  When eating or drinking processed fruit or juice that has been commercially bottled, the pectin and the methanol dissociate.  Methanol is in relation to alcoholics who use it as a cheap substitute when they can’t afford the real thing.

Make a pact to better your family’s health by substituting soda with the healthy and beneficial hibiscus tea.

Benefits of Natural Medicine

Benefits of Natural Medicine

Benefits of Natural MedicineNatural medicine has been practiced for centuries and before the beginning of modern technology.  Doctors and their patients had to rely on the natural techniques and herbal remedies in order to treat illnesses or heal injuries.  Conditions such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease have been reported to be successfully treated without the use of modern-day medical equipment and drugs.

The blatant dominance of modern medicine in Western society and its widespread popularity, has lent much criticism for being backwards and unreliable.  In actuality, the majority of medical students know just as much about herbal drugs as the general public.

Our current healthcare system is structured so that natural remedies are widely perceived as being inferior or something that people only use when they cannot afford modern medicine.  Many instances have been reported and a wealth of substantive data that prove exactly the opposite.

Going against the grain is not always a bad thing and more people need to realize that.

Using those synthetic drugs is an unhealthy choice and should be refused.   If more people were aware of the benefits of natural medicine it would increase the number of people using these resources.  Herbal extracts from plants have been used for illnesses long before people were given prescription drugs.

Here are some considerations why you should use natural medicine:

  • There are much less harmful side effects.  Often the pharmaceutical drugs will cause adverse reactions in the patients that take them and even worse yet, the companies that manufacture these drugs quite often do so without being aware of them.
  • Herbal medicine utilizes the body’s natural healing process for treating conditions and the ingredients are those that are regularly produced in the body.
  • Modern medicine is extremely costly, so natural medicine is very cost-effective.  Even generic pharmaceutical drugs can cost hundreds of dollars.  That trip to the emergency room for things like just a headache can cost this much money or more.  Herbal drugs can be bought over the counter and you won’t need that expensive health or drug insurance with high co-pay or deductible.
  • Natural medicine is understood to increase the body’s own ability to ward off diseases and increase immunity.  It will help you gain an overall healthier state of being and can easily be achieved with continued treatment.

Give yourself a new hobby and research all you can about natural medicine. Why spend all that money on one visit to the hospital if you have all the natural remedies at your fingertips?  Do your research and save yourself some money, and maybe even discomfort and harm from toxic drugs. However, remember, emergency medicine is always needed for certain problems. Get to know your doctor and ask if he or she is interested in helping you with good old fashion remedies that may help prevent illness.

Pickle Juice and Leg Cramps (1)

Pickle Juice & Leg Cramps

Pickle Juice and Leg Cramps (1)Everyone loves a good pickle, and not just a pregnant woman. As most of you know a pickle starts out as a cucumber. They are technically a fruit related to the melon and squash plant families. The pickle history dates back to 2030 B.C. when it has been said they were preserved by people living in the India and Tigris Valley regions.

Cucumbers come in two categories, slicing cucumbers that are larger and thick-skinned, and pickling cucumbers that are smaller and thinner-skinned. Even though cucumbers are 90% water they still manage to provide a number of valuable health benefits. A single cup of chopped cucumbers provides 11% of the vitamin K which fights inflammation, 4% of vitamin C which combats infection, 4% of the pantothenic acid which produces energy, 4% of the manganese which builds strong bones and 4% each of the potassium and magnesium that promote heart health. One study has shown that well-known chemotherapeutic agents, such as doxorubicin and gemcitabine, are in cucumbers and may be significant in future cancer research.

Over centuries the cucumber has been used for headache relief and to sooth tired and puffy eyes. In clinical studies they have been found to have antioxidant capabilities and more importantly, they are plants that have natural cancer-killing compounds. Athletes drinking pickle juice before an athletic performance has been a popular theory for some time for enhancement. Kevin Miller, Ph.D., and an independent team of scientists, artificially induced leg cramps in study participants who then were given pickle brine to drink. This resulted in eased cramping within 30 to 60 seconds. The pickle brine overwhelmed the neuroreceptors and caused them to reset the neurological impulse that dictated the cramps.

There are trace amounts of carbohydrates, minerals and sometimes probiotic bacteria in pickle juice along with high amounts of salt. With the nutrition in the actual cucumbers and the additional pickling ingredients, pickle juice is recognized for having potent health benefits such as:

  • Vinegar for stomach pain or nausea is a remedy, which is why pickle juice is tapped for this purpose. It may help restore stomach acidity when someone has unusually low production of gastric juices. However, do NOT drink pickle juice if you have an ulcer.
  • Some claim that drinking pickle juice can fight heart disease and help cure cancer.
  • Scientists say there’s no evidence that blotting pickle juice onto sunburned skin will offer any relief, yet it’s still a popular method.
  • If you’ve ever had a muscle cramp, these are really painful.  Some people believe drinking pickle juice might be a way to stave them off beforehand and ease them once one sets in.

Pickle juice may induce swelling, bloating and water retention due to the high amount of salt content. These results may bring on gout or exacerbate the problem due to the high acidity.  Cucumbers are also high on the pesticide residue list. Buy organic cucumbers or grow your own to avoid risk of pesticide exposure. Cucumbers are natural ethylene generators, so they initiate the ripening process in other fruits and vegetables such as bananas, melons and tomatoes, so you’d be best to store them in separate places.

The King of Essential Oils

The “King” of Essential Oils

The King of Essential OilsThere has always been a significant meaning for Frankincense in Christianity. It is believed to be one of the gifts offered by the three wise men to the newborn Jesus. This fragrant resin is transformed into an essential oil that’s valued in aromatherapy and natural health, as well as in religious practice.

This oil is also known as olibanum, which comes from the Boswellia genustrees. From the tree bark a milky white sap is extracted and allowed to harden into a gum resin for several days. Then it is scraped off in tear-shaped droplets. These trees grow in African and Arabian regions that include Yemen, Oman, Somalia and Ethiopia. Oman is the best known, and most ancient source of frankincense. It was then traded and shipped to other places like the Mediterranean, India and China for thousands of years.

The clear and silvery frankincense with a slight green tinge is the highest quality. In Oman the best frankincense is reserved for the sultan and usually kept in the country.  The cheapest variety is the brown-yellow frankincense. Traditionally frankincense is burned as incense, charred, then ground into a powder to produce the heavy kohl that was used as eyeliner by the Egyptian women. This is now steam-distilled to produce an aromatic essential oil with many benefits. Frankincense oil will have a woody, earthy, spicy and slightly fruity aroma that tends to be calming and relaxing. The oil is sweeter, fresher and cleaner than the frankincense resin.

Frankincense oil has been used in the Middle East in religious ceremonies for thousands of years.  It is also used in cosmetics. This is believed to be one of the top essential oils you can use for your health for visualizing, improving one’s spiritual connection and helping to overcome stress and despair.

Frankincense oil is inhaled or diffused via a vaporizer in aromatherapy and helps to induce a feeling of mental peace, relaxation and satisfaction as well as to help relieve anxiety, anger and stress.

It is also useful for your skin health, helping to treat dry skin, reversing signs of aging and to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars. The astringent properties will help strengthen gums and hair roots, stop wounds from bleeding and speed up the healing of cuts, acne, insect bites and boils.

The health benefits of frankincense oil are actually attributed to its anti-inflammatory, astringent, antiseptic, disinfectant, digestive, diuretic and expectorant properties. Other effects are cicatrisant, carminiative, cytophylactic, emenagogue, uterine and vulnerary. Frankincense oil is also useful for arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, colds and respiratory disorders, oral health problems, digestive disorders and uterine health.

Among its many believed benefits are its effects on Cancer. Scientists have shown that frankincense contains a bioactive agent that is potent against cancerous cells.

The oil might be used by applying topically, inhaling it using a diffuser or vaporizer, or ingesting it in very small amounts. To use for pain relief, just massage it onto the area that is affected.

No severe side effect of using this oil has been reported. However, there might be in some cases, skin rashes and some gastrointestinal distress as nausea, stomach pain and hyperacidity. It also has blood-thinning effects and may increase the risk of abnormal bleeding in people with a bleeding disorder or those taking an anticoagulant medication. Doing a spot test first is advisable to see if you have any sensitivity to this oil. If taken internally, it’s best to dilute a drop in edible carrier oil or a teaspoon of honey, purified water or any non-dairy beverage.

ESSENTIAL OIL OF SANDALWOOD IN FIGHT CANCER

Essential Oil of Sandalwood in Fighting Cancer

ESSENTIAL OIL OF SANDALWOOD IN FIGHT CANCERThe sandalwood trees are fragrant giant trees that are found across Southeast Asia. They have an earthy aroma with a tinge of sweetness and a hint of fruit. One of the local experts in Ayurvedic medicine says that deep within the heartwood of these trees is a precious substance that has been used by traditional healers for centuries, to fend off debilitating disease. The essential oil of sandalwood comes from the center most part of the tree trunks and roots, and is known as a remedy for preventing tumors and associated cancers. These trees are technically endangered and being grown in various parts of the world that includes Australia and Indonesia. The sandalwood essential oil is more expensive than other oils but provides some of the most powerful anti-inflammatory and chemoprotective serums available. Plus, it smells incredible.

Other benefits of the sandalwood oil are:

  • Mental clarity
  • Relaxing and calming
  • Memory booster
  • Natural aphrodisiac
  • Astringent
  • Anti-viral and antiseptic
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Expectorant
  • Hypotensive
  • Helps with endometriosis
  • Anti-aging
  • Anti-spasmotic

Here are a few ways in which the oil is used in the Chinese and Ayurveda medicine

  • Relaxation
  • Focus
  • For the Body
  • Cleansing & Home Use

There are no major reported side effects to the use of sandalwood. Some people might experience minor skin irritation from its use.

The University of Texas Researchers published findings in the 2016 edition of the journal Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Laboratory trials at UT-San Antonio, MCF-7 breast cancer cells and non-tumor producing breast epithelial (MCF-10A) cells were exposed to commercial-obtained, high-purity sandalwood for 24 hours and found remarkable results. Some specific proteins have a positive effect on cancer cells.

The effect that sandalwood has on hormones is important for breast cancer healing and prevention, since breast cancer risk is associated most with hormonal imbalance, especially too much estrogen and/or progesterone. It has the ability to create apoptosis in breast cancer cells, is a powerful antioxidant and is a proven anti-inflammatory to effect breast cancer.

Beware of counterfeit and diluted sandalwood oil. Make sure that you buy from a quality source you can trust as some of the oils gathered are not as potent as those gathered from the Indian sandalwood trees.

Alternative Cancer Treatment

Follow these tips to prevent cancer

Alternative Cancer TreatmentPaul Richards from Jamaica wrote an interesting article on cancer treatments and the alternatives. He begins by explaining that cancer is said to be caused from a virus, plague, condition and/or a product of unhealthy lifestyle and living. He believes it is all of the reasons stated above. Pollution and our surrounding environments also play a part of the unhealthy lifestyle.

Cancer is so complex because we are bombarded with chemical pollutants of all kinds. They are especially so in our foods, drinking water and even the air that we breathe. These pollutants are present in most industrialized countries around the world except for a few like China. Even though they are the world’s largest producer of rubber and plastic items, they are still able to remain healthy in spite of the innumerable amount of factories that they have.

The problem within the US and Europe is not because of the factories or products we make, but stems instead from the profitability of prescription drugs as opposed to inexpensive traditional herbal remedies. The pharmaceutical companies want to bite off more than they can chew, due to their greediness. The herbal remedies are too good and inexpensive, so the pharmaceutical companies literally drop their hands. It has been proven that manufactured drugs can be highly toxic and therefore very harmful to human beings. It is all about the money and not the people. People are dying every day because they cannot or could not afford the drug that might have put a new lease on their lives.

In China their everyday diet is very high in herbs, vegetables, fruits, nuts and water. Sugar, powdered seasoning, artificial flavorings, salts and sugars are hardly ever used. Americans and Europeans seldom prepare a balance meal and are heavy with fats, oils, sugars, salts, powder seasoning, artificial flavoring and so on.

Following these few steps every day may help prevent cancer.

  • Prepare meals with natural/organic seasoning more than artificial ones

  • Eat a balanced diet every day

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Exercise daily by walking or join a gym

  • Take a vacation at least twice yearly into the country

  • Detoxify yourself every night with pure lime/lemon juice with baking soda

  • Visit the doctor twice yearly for a checkup

  • Limit unhealthy lifestyle by staying with one sex partner and practicing healthy hygiene

  • Avoid cigarettes, ganja, cocaine, sodas, alcohol

  • Maintain a good spirit-filled life

  • Use mainly herbal remedies for illnesses and not pharmaceutical drugs

  • Purchase an herbal book to edify yourself

Convert your highly toxic body back to its natural state from acidic to alkaline. Bacteria, viruses, and germs love acid and will never go away as long as we keep giving them sweets, pastry, fatty foods, junk foods, sodas, white flour, white rice, red peas and the like. Strive to eat green leafy vegetables, fruits, brown rice and flour, nuts, coconut products, herbs, alkaline water and so on. They are much better and these steps might help you to not have to worry about cancers. I think Paul has a good suggestion for all of us to take control of our own health and happiness.

Woman Doing Yoga as Alternative Health Technique

Alternative Health is Booming

Woman Doing Yoga as Alternative Health Technique

It’s hard to believe about $30 billion dollars is spent by people in the US every year on alternative medicine.  This is only a mere fraction of about 1% of what Americans spend every year on conventional health care.

The National Health Interview Survey conducted in 2012 revealed information that involved 44,743 individuals aged 4 and above.  The next thought is, why would people in America spend that much money on what one prominent drug company referred to as, “eclectic” and “unconventional” health approaches instead of mainstream medicine.  Practitioners such as yoga instructors and chiropractors, natural supplements such as glucosamine and self-help materials such as books and CDs, are included in the alternative health care.  A study included a wide range of alternative health care expressions as: homeopathy, naturopathy, acupuncture chiropractic, Ayurveda, chelation, supplements, special diets, massage, mind-body therapies such as yoga, hypnosis and energy healing.

In 2012 a family with less than $25,000 income spent $435 a year and those with incomes of at least $100,000 spent around $580 on alternative medicine.  Even more interestingly is the fact that those making only $25,000 a year spends what little they have paying out of pocket for alternative health care.  Doesn’t that tell us something?  It’s all because they believe in it!  Richard Nahin, Ph.D. from the U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, and co-author of a study, said the amount of money spent in the US by people who disregard their lack of health care insurance coverage in pursuit of alternative health modalities, shows they have a greater amount of trust in them than conventional medicine.

A total of 225,000 Americans per year have died as a result of their medical treatments such as:

  • 12,000 deaths per year due to unnecessary surgery
  • 7,000 deaths per year due to medication errors in hospitals
  • 20,000 deaths per year due to other errors in hospitals
  • 80,000 deaths per year due to infections in hospitals
  • 106,000 deaths per year due to negative effects of drugs

The figures at that time made iatrogenic deaths third in line behind heart disease and cancer. CNN reported in 2015 that the leading cause of unintentional death the previous year was from drug overdoses.  When the data becomes to bogged down with potentially damaging information, it’s easier to just hide the statistics.  It isn’t surprising, but death certificates do not have a box at the bottom for coroners to designate “medical error” as a cause of death.  If a doctor does record it was a medical error, it’s still not included in the CDC’s mortality statistics.

More conventional doctors are opting for alternative medicine and are seeking it for themselves and families, rather than to take conventional routes.  Seniors are especially at risk for medication-related problems due to physiological changes of aging, higher incidence of multiple chronic diseases and conditions and greater consumption of prescription and over-the-counter medications.  ASPC reveals that seniors 65-69 take around 14 prescriptions per year and those 80-84 about 18 per year.  Medication-related problems cost $177.4 billion a year among seniors.

The natural alternatives are a wise choice for optimal health.  The very best thing you can do for yourself and your family is to take control of your own health.  Taking a prescription from a doctor isn’t the wisest thing to do without asking questions and researching the medication you are being given for side effects, etc.  Look at the natural remedies and alternative solutions before starting a new prescription.  Learn about the genetically modified organisms (GMOs), cancer, supplementation, aging and technology for yourself.  Get in the best shape ever by going natural!

Woman Skin Caring

Rejuvenate Your Skin

Woman Skin Caring“ It’s a good thing that beauty is only skin deep or I’d be rotten to the core.”

– Phillis Diller

For centuries the herbal buckthorn oil has been used in Asia and Europe and is gaining popularity in the U.S.  This is because of its many benefits, especially its potential anti-aging action.  Even though the name indicates it’s from the sea, it isn’t.  This oil is actually derived from sea buckthorn, a shrub that belongs to the Elaeagnaceae family and grows in the mountainous and coastal areas of Asia and Europe.  Hippophae rhamnoides is the botanical name and means “tree that makes the horse shine”.  They are referring to this plant’s ability to improve horses’ health and make their hair shiny and smooth, and also to cure blindness in horses.

Seed oil and fruit oil are two different kinds of sea buckthorn oil.  Both of them are derived from the small, nutrient-rich and yellow-orange berries that are only about 1/3 the size of a blueberry.  Oil is extracted from these small dark seeds and the fruit oil comes from the fleshy pulp.

They do have some characteristics in their nutrient profit.  Fruit oil is dark red or red orange and quite viscous, and the seed oil is yellow or pale orange and more fluid.  Both of these oils have a strong and musky scent.

There is a long history of use in folk medicine, dating back thousands of years, for the sea buckthorn.  It was used to help relieve various health problems.  It is also known to have helped relieve cough, promote blood circulation, digestion and alleviate pain and used in Tibet, Russia, Mongolia and China. This plant use is traced back as far as 5,000 BC.

This oil is well known today for the healthy and rejuvenating effects it has on the skin.  It’s a great natural cleanser and exfoliator when used topically, and can help heal burns, cuts, wounds, sunburn, rashes and other skin damages.  Daily use of the sea buckthorn helps to slow down the signs of aging by nourishing the tissues in your skin and body.

Sea buckthorn contains over 190 nutrients and phyfonutrients, including vitamin C, which is 12 times higher than that of an orange.  High amounts of vitamins, minerals, fiber and protein are also contained in the oil, making it a superfood. There is as much vitamin E as in wheat germ, 3 times more vitamin A than carrots and 4 times more super-oxide dismutase, which is an important enzyme that helps prevent free radical damage.  It is the only plant source that contains omega-3, 6, 9 and 7.

Some benefits of sea buckthorn oil are to promote skin health, help with weight management, helps prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, promotes healing of ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux disease, relieves dry eyes and prevents liver damage.

Always consult your doctor but it is said that you can take sea buckthorn oil either internally or as a topical, to receive the benefits.  Apply as a topical on the affected areas.  Internally, the dose is usually 5 ml taken two to three times daily, but consult with your heath care provider before self-dosing.  Use caution when using sea buckthorn oil, especially if you are dealing with specific health conditions.  This oil is NOT recommended for those with diseases of the intestines, kidney or liver, and it is not recommended for children ages 12 and younger.  Do not use for more than 3 months, as there are some reports of adverse effects in those who used for prolonged periods.  Also, your urine may turn a dark yellow or reddish color, with a slight musty smell, but usually harmless.

There may be some side effects in some people as diarrhea, abdominal spasms and other gastrointestinal problems.  Taking this oil in high amounts may lead to dehydration and loss of beneficial electrolytes.

Taking sea buckthorn oil might promote blood flow in the veins and arteries, so if you are taking any vasodilator medication, do not use this oil.  Blood sugar-lowering properties are also an effect, so if you are taking insulin or diabetes medications, this oil should be used with extreme caution.
