Organic Chicken Or Deception?

Organic Chicken Or Deception?

I really do not want to sound so negative but I actually woke up several times in the night thinking if I should write about this. We always tell our patients at New Hope Unlimited to be careful with the meat they eat. It is very important to buy meat that has no hormones in it. One would think that type meat would be called Organic. Well, maybe we need to re-think our language or wording.

We feel it is best to eat good clean meat with no hormones or antibiotics because no matter what you are told, it’s true, we get a portion of the hormones and antibiotics given to the animals. There is a tremendous amount of studies that back this up. But other than the studies to prove it, look around you….our children are maturing physically faster than they should. The average age for a female to start her period used to be around the age of 13. Now, the average age is around 8 or 9. Have you noticed how the little girls are growing breast much faster than the “old days”? I have a good friend who is a plastic surgeon. He told me on many occasions the amount of young males that he is having to remove breast tissue so that they are not so self-conscious about their big breast. It’s not only affecting the girls, but also the boys. In fact, it could be affecting all of us. Playing with our hormones is no laughing matter and can be very serious for our health.

The other day I went to one of our local Health Food grocery stores called Whole Foods, to get some organic chicken (no hormones, no antibiotics). Since we are supposed to be in a country where there is free speech and this is a blog type website, I am giving my opinion.

I have always supported this company and have always told our patients about it. However, I felt deceived the other day. When I walked up to the meat counter and looked at the chicken, I quickly noticed the chicken breast was large and plump. Chicken Breasts without hormones aren’t as plumped up as those given hormones.I was confused, so I asked the man behind the counter did the chicken breast have hormones and he said “No”. Well, I went ahead and bought the chicken. But that night I woke up and I decided that I needed to do some research. I know it may sound crazy to some of you but when it comes to our health, money and deception is something I have trouble tolerating.

After doing some extensive research, I found that by adding a sign like “No added hormones” does not mean its organic! It can have a certain amount of hormones. I am not trying to cause trouble but to help educate the public. Do your own research and decide for yourself.

If you are interested in eating real organic meat, there may be local farmers in your area you can support. There is a list on the internet that you can buy from. You can get the meat frozen or unfrozen. I know it may seem a little more work but in the long run, it may add years to your life and your loved ones.
